Visual Elements: Behind the Scenes

In the world that we live in, appearances do matter.

We’re not talking about simple aesthetics — if something looks good or not — but rather the physical aspect of everything is of utmost importance. In the digital world, and in gaming specifically, it’s the first point of contact with a product, followed by audio quality. These are the two senses we use to interact virtually, so it’s natural that these elements of any game are key features.

If a game looks good, that’s certainly a plus, but more than that, it has to be cohesive. At MetaSoccer we are creating an entire soccer universe from scratch, with multiple elements that need to fit into a certain style and that are made of hundreds of tiny details normally not even considered.

Today, we’d like to take you on a short journey behind the scenes.

Gameplay screens

The creation of each of the gameplay screens go through multiple stages until reaching the final aggregate product you see.

All screens are carefully considered, taking into account both the complexity and the usability — form and function go hand by hand. Each button, color, font, and placement of different elements is carefully planned and designed — with a lot of trial and error — until a final image is prepared. After that, those elements are thoroughly tested and then they are released in beta form.

Characters

Each of the players and scouts are created from scratch. This is a tremendous amount of work, because numerous elements are taken into consideration.

The team not only designs faces and bodies of characters, they consider tiny details that make all the difference. Hairstyles and facial features, for example, are realistic and represent diversity and individuality. Even adding realistic freckles to some characters and constructing proportionate eyes, noses and lips contributes to the intricate work that is needed.

Clothing also plays an important role, and we take into consideration realistic textures, logos and color combinations that go well together.

Finally, lighting is everything — it makes or brakes an image, changes your perspective, and conveys different meanings according to where it is placed. We use two sources of light (one in the front or side and a bounce light) to create the rim light.

After everything is settled, each image needs to be rendered, so when a new scout is bought or a new player is discovered, you’ll get to see immediately what they look like!

Latest creations

Besides the typical day-to-day design, we are planning several steps ahead to create new visual elements that bring us closer to real-life soccer.

We’re talking about the official MetaSoccer football and the Winners’ Cup, using cutting-edge designs that make some real-life cups look pale in comparison.

And a real team needs real second equipment, which we are working on at full speed — we promise, it’s looking great!

Last but not least, the development of female characters is going smoothly — more details about their participation in the soccer metaverse will be revealed soon.

Now that you know more about our behind-the-scenes visual creation of the game, we hope you can see the game with a renewed perspective, knowing that it’s all for you to have the best gaming experience possible!
